Integrating solar technologies into new and existing structures has aesthetic and fiscal appeal. Building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) offset costs by reducing the amount spent on the building materials normally used to construct the part of the building that the BIPV modules replace. Considered the preeminent authority on the integration of renewable energy with environmentally responsive building design, Steven Strong will conduct a full day workshop on BIPV in San Antonio on Friday, October 17 at the Bright Shawl from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Click here to register.

Founder and President of Solar Design Associates, Inc., Strong's internationally recognized team of architects and engineers is dedicated to the design of environmentally responsive buildings, and the engineering and integration of renewable energy systems He is the author of "The Solar Electric House," a representative to the International Energy Agency PV expert working group, TIME magazine's 1999 "Hero for the Planet" and 2001 Charles Greeley Abbot Award winner. In 2007, Time Magazine again recognized Strong in its special on climate change as an "innovator building a greener world."

Produced in conjunction with the local AIA chapter, this workshop will cover an overview of photovoltaic systems in buildings including case studies, design options, materials and methods for use in residential and commercial structures. Strong will also address codes, economics and incentives before a more detailed end of day discussion. This presentation is certified for 8 AIA continuing education credits, and early bird registration applies until October 10. Click here to register.

Strong's lectures and symposia have been pre-approved by the American Institute of Architects for AIA professional continuing education credits in the health, safety and welfare area. The AIA helped to co-sponsor his involvement in the development of renewable energy based curriculum for design students in schools of architecture as well as for practicing professionals.

This workshop is made possible by a grant from the Grace W. Baskin Charitable Fund of the San Antonio Area Foundation, aspiring to significantly enhance the quality of life of our community by providing outstanding service to donors, producing significant asset growth, strengthening community collaboration and managing an exemplary grants program.
